Location Research -
For our music video we have chosen multiple different location in order to effectively portray the narrative.
Location 1: Town Centre
Maidenhead is a large town in the county of Berkshire, England. It lies south-west of the River Thames, but at Maidenhead, the river runs north-south and so the town is on its west bank. The town has a population of just under 75,000 inhabitants. (From Wikipedia)
We have chosen the high street as one of our locations as it gives the urban feel that many indie music videos have. It also means we have a choice of where to shoot the video as it is a large area. This also means we can get multiple shots done at once.
We will have to be careful on when we choose to shoot in the town centre as there are times when it could become very busy making it difficult to shoot.
Location 2: Cookham Riverside
Cookham is a historic village and civil parish on the River Thames in the north-easternmost corner of Berkshire in England. (From Wikipedia)
We have chosen to shoot some of our video down by the river is Cookham. This is because it is a quiet area that has lots of different settings that we can use. The use of the outdoors is common in indie music videos as it is easily accessible and doesn't cost much.
We will have to be careful when shooting as there are often cows in the field. There may also be dogs who could run into shot when we are filming.
Location 3: Alfred Major Recreational Ground
The Parish Council owns 14 acres of green space in the middle of Cookham, called the
Alfred Major Recreation Ground. This land was bequeathed to the village in the 1940s for the recreation and enjoyment of the community. (From cookhamparishcouncil.org.uk)
We have chosen to use the Alfred Major as it is a large area with lots of different settings we can use. There is a basketball court, skate ramp, play park, football posts, benches and more. This means we can get a range of shots quickly and easily.
We have to be careful when choosing the day to record our shots are there is often a football club having matches on the pitch which could make it difficult to film.
Location 4: Alleyway
This alleyway is situated between Westwood Green and Lower Road in Cookham, Berkshire. It is hedged on one side and fenced on the other. In the middle of the alleyway there are white posts to stop bicycles coming down as it is a footpath for pedestrians only.
We have chosen this location as it creates the urban feel that is used in most indie music videos. It is also a quiet location so we will be able to achieve good shots here. The alleyway is a bit old and has some graffiti on the walls close to the end. This portrays the rough and edginess often associated with the indie genre.
Location 5: House
We will use someones house to shoot the inside scenes. This will make it more realistic. We will us mostly just the living room and bedroom in the house. These shots will be at the beginning and end of the music video.
